Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2022-23
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2022-23 includes $15,000,000 in funding for the Open Door Program. The program provides grants to school district career centers, charter technical career centers and Florida College System institutions for two types of student grants: Last Dollar Grant and the Student Investment Grant. Funds may be used to support short-term, high-demand career and technical education credentialing and certificate programs linked to the Master Credential List. Students must meet the following criteria to receive funds under both the Last Dollar Grant and the Student Investment Grant programs: (a) Be admitted to and enrolled full-time in an eligible program at an eligible institution; (b) Be a resident of this state as determined under Section 1009.21, F. S.; (c) Be unemployed, underemployed or furloughed; and (d) Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year in which the grant is sought. See issue code 4000395 for the $20,000,000 included in the Florida Colleges Budget Entity for this initiative.
