Issue:            DIVISION OF CORPORATIONS ELECTRONIC IMAGING CONVERSION PROJECT

Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2022-23
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2022-23 includes $500,000 in nonrecurring General Revenue for the Microfilm to Electronic Imaging Conversion Project. The cost to repair, support, or purchase microfilm equipment is no longer cost-effective. In addition, microfilm records deteriorate overtime and eventually become illegible. Converting these records into an electronic format will allow the division to import these documents into its current electronic imaging system, preserve public records, provide free access to these records via its Sunbiz.org website, and permanently maintain the records in accordance with the department's retention schedule. If funded, this issue will convert half of over 2,500,000 microfiche cards to digital format.
