Issue: INCREASED CAPACITY |
Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2022-23
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2022-23 includes $13,766,029 in nonrecurring Land Acquisition Trust
Fund authority for the construction of an artifact curation facility that can accommodate the growing collection of
Florida's historical objects. Florida law stipulates that the state must accommodate the accession of new artifacts
(267.12(3), 267.061 6(b), 267.115, F.S.). The current curation facility is nearly at capacity and the Division of
Historical Resources can no longer accommodate new artifacts without compromising professional curation standards. The
new facility will increase the security and safety of Florida's artifacts and will include a lobby and teaching area,
allowing the public to observe the process that conservators use to restore artifacts.
