Issue:            REPLACEMENT OF VESSELS

Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2022-23
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 includes funding to purchase seven vessels in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration (DEAR), the Florida Geological Survey (FGS) and the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection (FCP). Reliable vessels are essential to completing extensive sampling and other field work that DEAR staff must conduct to monitor, assess and report on water quality and support the development of Total Maximum Daily Loads and Basin Management Action Plans. These vessels are often used to collect samples in response to harmful algal blooms. The FGS's is used to meet field work needs, including mapping, sampling, conducting water-quality-related studies, and transporting staff, researchers and students to notable geological outcrops. RCP's vessels are used to conduct field work and sampling, to monitor, assess and report on the Aquatic Preserves and to support submerged land management needs.
